The exceptional mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli has been very successful in Spain (22 October – National Music Auditorium, Madrid; 25 October – Palau de la Música, Barcelona) performing one of the most emblematic roles of the operatic repertoire: ‘La Cenerentola’ by Gioacchino Rossini. The adaptation in concert version of the stage production that obtained a great success in Salzburg Festival and also in the best European concert halls has allowed us to enjoy the delightful and comical approach of Cinderella’s character made by the italian composer.

Mahler Chamber Orchestra shines on their spanish tour 

Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Daniele Gatti have shone on their recent spanish tour, which has included concerts at Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao, Auditorio de Zaragoza and Palau de la Música Catalana de Barcelona. In addition, the orchestra have moved in Barcelona with ‘Feel The Music’. This project invites deaf and hard-of-hearing children to discover music on their own terms.

Masaaki Suzuki has shown his excellence as a conductor with the Spanish National Choir and Orchestra (OCNE) for the first time in three concerts performing the ‘Elijah’ oratorio by Mendelssohn at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid on 16, 17 and 18 March, accompanied by Rachel Nicolls, Anna Stèphany, James Gilchrist and David Soar as soloists. His amazing interpretation has been recognized by critics and audiences. 

Masaaki Suzuki combines his career as a conductor with his activity as an organist and harpsichordist, considered an authority on Bach’s work. He performs regularly in the main concert halls and festivals of Europe, building a solid and exceptional reputation with his expressive refinement and the veracity of his performances.

Masaaki Suzuki will conduct the Spanish National Orchestra for the first time in three concerts performing the ‘Elijah’ oratorio by Mendelssohn at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid on 16, 17 and 18 March, accompanied by Rachel Nicolls, Anna Stèphany, James Gilchrist and David Soar as soloists.

Masaaki Suzuki combines his career as a conductor with his activity as an organist and harpsichordist, considered an authority on Bach’s work. He performs regularly in the main concert halls and festivals of Europe, building a solid and exceptional reputation with his expressive refinement and the veracity of his performances.

He directs Bach Collegium Japan, an ensemble specialized in baroque music that he founded in 1990. Founder and Professor Emeritus of the early music department at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he is the principal guest conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum.

The young russian soprano Julia Lezhneva, one of the most talented of her generation, has delighted with her voice in the three concerts (26, 27 and 28th January) she has performed  at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid with the Spanish National Orchestra (ONE), conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali and accompanied by pianist Mikhail Antonenko. These performances have been presented in the ‘OCNE Symphonic Cycle’ and entitled ‘From Russia with the voice’. The repertoire has included pieces by Vivaldi, Händel, Mozart and Sibelius.

Lezhneva has fascinated to the audience with her performances of Vivaldi (‘Agitata da due venti’), Händel (‘Solitudini amate… Aure fonti’, ‘Brilla nell’alma’) and Mozart (‘Ch’io mi scordi di te?… Non temer, amato bene’) accompanied by ONE and Rouvali, as well as by Antonenko in the last piece of the programme before the break. Later, conductor and orchestra have moved the spectators with the ‘Symphony No.2 in D major, opus 43’ by Sibelius.

Yuja Wang finished her spanish tour with Chamber Orchestra of Europe last Saturday 20th January. The tickets were sold out for the concert at L’Auditori in Barcelona before an unforgettable night. The audience enjoyed her brilliant piano performances (Beethoven’s ‘Piano Concerto No.1’, Chopin’s ‘Andante spianato et grande polonaise brillante’), conducting as well the orchestra in these pieces. The spectators also admired the works of Mendelssohn performed by the prestigious orchestra, conducted here by the concertino Lorenza Borrani.

Considered one of the greatest worldwide artists of the last decade, Yuja Wang gave away six encores that showed her virtuosity, talent and genuine condition. Transgression, avant-garde and passion define her hypnotic presence on stage, confirmed by the enthusiastic audience who attended the previous concerts at Kursaal San Sebastián (15), Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao (16), Baluarte Pamplona (17) and Auditorio Zaragoza (18).

She will come back to Spain on May 22th to perform a recital at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, included in the ‘Cycle of Great Performers – Fundación Scherzo’. It will be a unique opportunity to see and hear live the most exciting pianist of the moment.

Lezhneva will return to the same stage where she achieved a great success in February 2017 accompanied by La Voce Strumentale and Dmitry Sinkovsky. Also, she amazed last year with her debut at Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) performing Mozart’s opera ‘Don Giovanni’ and impressed the audience at Castell de Peralada Festival, where Lezhneva made her first recital.

She has become one of the main highlights of the decade in classical music, owner of a voice that shows an “angelic beauty” (The New York Times) and brings an “unforgettable spiritual expression and perfect artistry” (The Guardian). Lezhneva has released her last album ‘Graun: Opera Arias’ (Decca Classics) on April 2017.

Yuja Wang returns to Spain in January 2018 to perform five concerts accompanied by Chamber Orchestra of Europe: Kursaal in San Sebastián (15), Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao (16), Baluarte in Pamplona (17), Auditorio in Zaragoza (18) and L’Auditori in Barcelona (20).

‘Philippe Jaroussky amazes in concert with ‘The Händel Album’

Considered the best countertenor worldwide, Philippe Jaroussky has achieved a great success during the recent concerts in Spain to perform the repertoire of his new album ‘The Händel Album’ (Erato-Warner Classics).

 He has performed three performances in Baluarte (Pamplona), Palau de la Música (Valencia) and Kursaal Auditorium (San Sebastián) to present accompanied by Ensemble Artaserse his first recording entirely dedicated to the german-british composer, composed of his less well know and staged opera arias.

 Jaroussky will come back to Spain in 2018 with Gluck’s ‘Orfeo’ at Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona) and will star one of the most important events next year: the opera ‘Only the sound remains’, composed by Kaija Saariaho and Peter Sellars as stage director, at Teatro Real (Madrid).
